Jones calls out Miocic after defeating Gane

Update:
After a three-year layoff, ‘Bones’ easily defeated Cyril Gane at UFC 285 and expressed his desire to face heavyweight great Stipe Miocic next.

He transformed his body, he trained hard, he analyzed his opponent, he came back and he won in great fashion.

Jon Jones quickly dismantled Cyril Gane in the UFC 285 main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a much-anticipated return.

The American claimed the vacant heavyweight title in only two minutes, the time he needed to beat his opponent with a guillotine choke, proving to everyone he was the same Jones of old. After his victory, he became the eighth two-division UFC champion.

Jones, who last defeated Dominick Reyes in a controversial decision in February 2020, vacated his light heavyweight title to bulk up and try to succeed at heavyweight.

Stipe Miocic next

After his impressive performance against one of the most dangerous fighters in the whole promotion, the Rochester native could have stepped out of the sport but Jones believes his adventure in the UFC hasn’t finished yet.

Bones, considered by many as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, is aware of his status but feels he needs to grab the last piece of the UFC puzzle, the name that would probably make his record the very best ever. And that’s no other than Stipe Miocic.

After the fight, Jones called out the promotion’s most successful heavyweight champion.

“Stipe Miocic, I hope you’ve been training my guy. You’re the greatest heavyweight of all time, and that’s what I want. I want you real bad”, he said during his octagon interview.

“I’m so excited, I’ve been working on this for a long time. A lot of people thought I wouldn’t come back, I read that all the time. I’ve been faithful to the goal and the mission. I had the strong conviction that if I was to get him down to the ground, the fight would be in my area”, he added.

At the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Jones’ wish will be granted.

“I don’t know when, but Jones is definitely fighting Stipe. He wants the Stipe fight, so we’ll make the Stipe fight”, White stated.

Although no date has been set yet, Miocic has repeatedly said their fight could take place at UFC 290 in July.
