With LIV Golf’s fourth tournament set to tee off this week in Boston, we take a look at what you need to know and how and where you can watch it all.

LIV Golf heads to Boston but sacrifices will be made

With the curtain having come down on one of the most memorable PGA Tour seasons in recent history, the controversial LIV Golf Invitational series now finds itself well and truly under the microscope with its tournament in Boston. Organizers have promised to announce even more big names who have defected from the Tour, which is to say it’s going to be one to watch. After all, it was only a few days ago that Cameron Smith headlined yet another group of marquee players who jumped ship. Alongside him were Joaquin Niemann, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale, Harold Varner III and Anirban Lahiri.

Interestingly, this leads to the question of, ‘what happens to the golfers which new signings replace?’ As we know, the field is restricted to 48 players and with that in mind, we’ve seen the likes of Pablo Larrazabal return to the DP World Tour along with Oliver Bekker. This is all to say, that it’s quite likely we will see the ‘lesser’ players sacrificed. One can reasonably imagine, that players like Atthipat Buranatanyarat, Yuki Inamori, Sadom Kaewkanjana, or Viraj Mapappa, Jediah Morgan, and Kevin Yuan may not be around for much longer. Yet, where will they go given the hostility that now exists between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour on one side and LIV Golf on the other.

Stars will be show for LIV Golf in Boston

Without doubt Cameron Smith’s defection was a massive blow to the PGA Tour. After enjoying incredible success this year with wins in the Tournament of Champions, the Tour Championship and The Open, Smith was a sure bet for player of the year honors. Needless to say, there won’t be any prize given to him by the PGA Tour now. On the other hand, many will argue that despite his obvious talent, Smith lacks the kind of showmanship and charisma that fans want to see. This of course brings us to what they will see in Boston and that’s quite simply some of the best in the business. With the likes Bryson DeChambeau, Bubba Watson and Patrick Reed on show, spectators are in for a treat.

Where and when is the LIV Golf Invitational Series in Boston and what’s the purse?

Set to tee off on Friday, September 2nd, fans will get to see a shotgun start, which is to say that all 48 players will tee off simultaneously meaning in roughly five hours the action should be wrapped up. Regarding the course itself, ‘The Oaks Course,’ The International at Boston is the venue for LIV Golf this time around. Designed by Geoffrey Cornish in 1957 and redesigned by Robert Trent Jones, the course is lined with trees -thousands of pines to be exact - has waste areas and who lot of bunkers. Incredibly, though it’s a par-72, 6,944-yard course, it can be stretched to an eye-opening 8,325 yards. Where prize money is concerned, the purse in Boston is a not so shabby $20 million. The individual winner will pocket $4 million with the winning team taking home $3 million.
