Some have claimed the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is the real start of this year’s PGA Tour season, despite it being the fifth tournament and the second Signature Event on the calendar.

The reason for that view is that this week’s event, which takes place at Pebble Beach Golf Club and also Spyglass Hill Golf Course, is not only at one of the circuit’s most iconic venues, but also because two of the world’s biggest golfing stars will be making their first appearances on the PGA Tour this year.

Scheffler and McIlroy head star-studded field at Pebble Beach

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won seven times in 2024, makes his debut after undergoing minor surgery following a Christmas cooking accident at home (yes, really). Blame ravioli for not seeing the reigning FedEx Cup champion before now.

And Rory McIlroy will take a break from TGL to tee it up (outdoors) in the United States for the first time this year too. The Northern Irishman has already played in one event in 2025, finishing in a tie for fourth at the Hero Dubai Dessert Classic on the DP World Tour.

Plenty of other big names will be involved, including five other members of the world top 10 (Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, Ludwig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood), and US stars Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.

What is prize purse at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am? How much does the winner get?

Of course, there are a couple of simple reasons as to why the stars will be out in force this week. In addition to the spectacular setting, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am’s status as a Signature Event means there is a huge prize on offer, with a $20 million overall purse. That will be divided as such between the field, with the winner scooping a cool $3.6 million.
