The men’s 100m race at the World Athletics Champions 2023 is almost too close to call, with a number of exceptional athletes vying to be crowned world champion.
American sprinter Fred Kerley picked up the gold in last year’s World Championships but he face tough competition from within the United States’ team. His compatriot Noah Lyes has set himself a target time of 9.65 and has impressed in recent events.
Also in contention are 2019 world champion Christian Coleman and Marcell Jacobs, who won the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics. Jacobs has struggled with injuries in recent years but told reporters recently that he is feeling ready to challenge for “the only medal I’m still missing in my collection.”
“I am in good shape for these Championships, and I am focused on what I need to do,” Jacobs said ahead of the World Championships. “Maybe I’ve had too many injuries over the last two years but I have overcome my challenges.”
