Novak Djokovic becomes third-ever member of Wimbledon ’100 Club’
The history-making Serbian racked up his 100th win at the All England Club on Saturday as he targets an eighth Wimbledon title.
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic saw off Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday, 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. In doing so, Djokovic joins a very elite club.
Saturday’s victory was Djokovic’s 100th win at Wimbledon. The only other players to have won 100 or more singles matches at the All England Club are Martina Navratilova and Roger Federer.
Speaking after the game, Djokovic was asked about this incredible milestone.
“It’s very historic. It sounds very nice. I’m very grateful, obviously, privileged to be in the position I am,” Djokovic replied.
“I’ve said it many times: Tennis made me who I am, has given me incredible things in life that I can experience. I try not to take anything for granted, particularly at this age.”
“Still going strong, trying to compete with the young players, do some slides and splits on court and push myself to the limit.”
Djokovic, now 38 years old, is playing at Wimbledon for the 20th time in his stellar career. With 24 Grand Slam titles to his name he is the most successful male singles player of all time. He is tied with Margaret Court across both genders.
But throughout a long career, Wimbledon retains a special sentimentality for the Serbian. He will take on Alex De Minaur, world No. 11, for a place in the quarter-final.
“Wimbledon is the favorite and dream tournament, not just for myself but probably for the majority of tennis players,” Djokovic said. “Growing up most kids dream of playing here and winning here. I have been blessed to do it multiple times, and any history I can make in my favorite tournament, I’m blessed.”
