Following his victory over Márton Fucsovics at 2023 Roland Garros, Djokovic shared his thoughts on the NBA playoffs finals, where Jokić's Denver Nuggets will face off against the Miami Heat, led by their star player Jimmy Butler.

Let’s go, Jokić! I love Jimmy Butler; he is an incredible player... I know he was coming to watch some of the tournaments in the States, Jimmy... but I have to support my man Joker! And I hope they will win their first ring. I said that I am incredibly proud of Jokic; I think that when he retires, he will surely appreciate it even more. He was MVP twice, and he will surely be again. He is an intelligent basketball player, and I am not a basketball expert; I listen and watch what people say. Shaq, Magic, everyone is talking about him, and he is the best three years in a row. It’s amazing, and it comes from a small country. He is a very good guy, and he loves his horses. It’s funny to me, but I really respect it. He doesn’t care what others say, and that doesn’t something I respect a lot about him,” said Novak Djokovic.

Recently, two renowned Serbian athletes exchanged admiration, with Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic expressing his aspirations to emulate tennis superstar Novak Djokovic’s remarkable achievements. During a press conference, Jokic praised Djokovic as a symbol of Serbia on a global stage, acknowledging his role as a Serbian ambassador and idol for the youth. He also commended Djokovic’s philanthropic efforts through his foundation. Although Jokic humbly confessed that he did not have Djokovic’s contact information, the tennis icon revealed that he had recently acquired Jokic’s number.

Djokovic expressed his sincere appreciation for Jokic’s kind words, stating that he was genuinely flattered by the Nuggets’ center’s praise. Djokovic mentioned watching Jokic’s interview approximately a week ago and expressed his gratitude for the uplifting sentiments expressed by Jokic. He also acknowledged the challenge of acquiring Jokic’s contact details in today’s day and age. He said his eager to convey his gratitude to Jokic for profoundly touching him with his heartfelt remarks through a text message.
