Rory McIlory files for divorce: When did the golfer marry Erica Stoll? How many kids do they have together?
Four-time major champion McIlory filed for divorce the day after winning the Wells Fargo Championship and on the eve of the PGA Championship.
It’s been a fantastic week for Rory McIlory on the golf course, with the Northern Irishman winning the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte for the fourth time in his career on Sunday. However, it has now been revealed the four-time major winner filed for divorce from wife Erica Stoll in Florida on Monday, less than 24 hours after his PGA Tour win, and just three days before he takes part in the 2024 PGA Championship.
How and where did McIlory and Stoll meet?
McIlory and Stoll met when she was working at the 2012 Ryder Cup, an event at which she was working at as a PGA transport official. The story goes that Stoll helped McIlory get a police escort after his alarm failed to go off and he almost missed his tee time.
At the time, the golfer was dating Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, who he became engaged to but later separated from a few months later.
McIlroy and Stoll’s relationship
After more than two years of friendship, romance blossomed between McIlory and Stoll, who got engaged in December 2015 in Paris, marrying 16 months later at Ashford Castle in Ireland in April 2017.
The couple have one daughter together, Poppy Kennedy McIlory, who was born in September 2020.
As recently as last October, Stoll was seen cheering McIlory on at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, where the Irishman helped Europe to victory over the United States.
The 35-year-old will be back in action on Thursday when the second major of the year, the 2024 PGA Championship, gets underway at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
