Ryan García gave the boxing world the biggest shock of the year. “King Ry” defeated WBC Super Lightweight champion Devin Haney by majority decision in a fight in which Haney was dropped three times.

The victory allowed García to earn millions of dollars. The boxer himself confirmed reports indicating that he had bet $2 million on the bout, giving him a juicy return of $12 million.

“If you’re going to bet, bet on yourself. Approximately $50 million dollars (possibly a little more) in one night, not bad at all. I will let God guide me on how to use that money,” García wrote on Instagram.

Ryan García silences his detractors

With the victory on Saturday night, García silenced his detractors, especially those who criticized his poor preparation in the build up, forcing him to honor a $1.5 million bet for coming in three pounds over weight.

García challenged them after going up to the weigh-in and having what looked like a beer, but was later confirmed to be apple juice, in addition to uploading a video in which he was smoking just minutes after beating Haney, in the champ’s first ever career loss.

“I know people are very angry. Imagine, imagine a guy who trolls non-stop. Defeat a pound-for-pound champion and then it’s chilling, brother, that’s hilarious,” Garcia posted mockingly after the victory.
