SIGA CEO Macedo de Medeiros champions sport’s role in sustainable, prosperous future
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros was a panellist at the Partnership Summit, held in New Delhi as part of India’s G20/B20 presidency.
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, the CEO of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), says the sporting industry must be a key driver of business practices that promote a sustainable and prosperous future.
Macedo de Medeiros was speaking in New Delhi on Tuesday at the Partnership Summit, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry as part of India’s presidency of the G20/B20. Participating in the panel discussion “Good Corporate Governance – Imperative for Environmental, Social and Governance Compliance”, he highlighted the importance of initiatives such as SIGA’s Independent Rating and Verification System (SIRVS).
Operated by the business improvement and standards company BSI, SIRVS independently assesses sports organisations’ compliance with SIGA’s Universal Standards on Sport Integrity, which seek to foster ethical, sustainable and socially-conscious governance in the sporting industry.
“We invite sport and the wider industry to ‘walk the talk’”
“Sport has a huge role to play in creating responsible, accelerated, innovative, sustainable, and equitable business,” he said. “To meet the mounting challenges ahead and deliver its invaluable social, cultural, educational, and economic function in today’s society and global economy and, at the same time, contribute to a truly sustainable world, sport must lead by example. Sport needs to govern itself and operate under the highest integrity standards.
“This is what the Sport Integrity Global Alliance is about and is committed to. We invite sport and the wider industry to ‘walk the talk’. And this means implementing our Universal Standards and being accountable by going through our Independent Rating and Verification System. We invite all like-minded organisations to join our global movement and be a driving force for the much-needed and long overdue cultural change.”
