For the first time in tournament history, the European team for the 2025 Ryder Cup will feature the same 12 surnames as the squad that triumphed in the 2023 edition in Rome. The only change for Bethpage Black in New York is the swapping of one twin, Rasmus Hojgaard, for another.
Rasmus Hojgaard steps in for twin Nicolai
In Italy two years ago, Nicolai Hojgaard earned half a point from three matches as Europe defeated Team USA 16.5-11.5 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. This week on Long Island, it will be brother Rasmus’ turn to get his first taste of Ryder Cup action.
Rising star on the DP World Tour
Since turning professional in 2019, Hojgaard has become the youngest player since José María Olazábal in 1989 to win five times on the DP World Tour. His most recent victory came at the Irish Open in September 2024.
The 24-year-old has yet to make a major impact on the PGA Tour, where he has three top-10 finishes in 40 starts, but he did post his first top-20 finish in a major at this year’s Open Championship.
Who is Julie Sander Danielsen?
Hojgaard will be backed at his first Ryder Cup by girlfriend Julie Sander Danielsen, who also hails from Denmark.
The couple have largely kept their private lives private, with Danielsen, once active on Instagram, having not posted on the platform in more than two years.
The pair appear to be in a long-term relationship, with Hojgaard first appearing on Danielsen’s Instagram feed back in 2019. Their most high-profile public appearance together came when they were photographed celebrating Hojgaard’s victory at Made In Himmerland, now known as the Danish Golf Championship, in 2023.
Danielsen is originally from the city of Vejle, the ninth largest in Denmark, but later moved to Aarhus, the country’s second-largest city after the capital, Copenhagen.
