This is the reason why Scottie Scheffler isn’t playing at the 2025 Truist Championship
The world No. 1 stormed to victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week but he’s decided to skip the upcoming trip to Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Fresh from his incredible 31-under finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last weekend, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has decided to skip the upcoming Truist Championship.
The 28-year-old has been in incredible form this year and would have been the favorite to win another title at the upcoming $20 million tournament. However Scheffler has been cautious to avoid overexertion ahead of Major tournaments and looks to be saving himself for the PGA Championship a week later.
It’s a lesson learned from his experiences in 2024, when he played and won the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, just days before the US Open. He was heavily tipped to clinch his first US Open title but underperformed and was 13 shots off the lead by Saturday night.
After a disappointing third round, Scheffler told reporters that he would try to avoid playing the week before a Major in future.
He said: “I think in terms of prep work for a week that I know is going to be as tough as this, I’m leaning going forward to maybe not playing the week before."
“I think especially going around Jack [Nicklaus’] place, which is going to be pretty close. I did most of my damage under par there at the beginning of the week, so... I think going into the Major championships, especially the ones we know are going to be really challenging, it may be in my best interest not to play the week before. Like I said, that’s stuff for me to figure out later in the year.”
That decision gives Scheffler a healthy break before heading to Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club for the PGA Championship. The tournament will be held across 15-18 May and it represents a major target for Scheffler, who will be desperate to improve on the runners-up finish he managed in 2023.
