Sadly for many, the United States golfer Tiger Woods won’t compete at the 2022 US Open. The 46-year-old announced the news on social media earlier in June, adding that he did plan to play at the JP McManus Pro-Am and The Open Championship in Ireland in July.

“I previously informed the USGA that I will not be competing in the @usopengolf as my body needs more time to get stronger for major championship golf,” Woods wrote in a tweet. “I do hope and plan to be ready to play in Ireland at @JPProAm and at @TheOpen next month. I’m excited to get back out there soon!”

Woods focusing on recovery

Following injuries sustained in a car crash in early 2021, Woods has been recovering away from the golf course. He underwent major surgery on his right leg at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center after being involved in a high-speed, single-car accident outside Los Angeles.

Woods suffered open fractures to both the upper and lower portions of his tibia and fibula in his right leg, as well as damage to the ankle bones and trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg, according to his social media account in February 2021.

No doubt Woods will take much of the attention in those aforementioned July tournaments if he does indeed make them.
