Travelers Championship 2024 Round 1 Thursday tee times and pairings

Rory McIlroy is the highest-profile absentee after his US Open collapse, while Tiger Woods is also missing from the field at TPC River Highlands.

The busy schedule on the PGA Tour continues with the Travelers Championship 2024, the eighth and final Signature Event of the season, which comes hot on the heels of the 2024 US Open and the Memorial, which also had elevated status. The tournament at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut gets underway on Thursday (20 June) and a stellar field will be bidding for the $3.6 million first prize, the joint third highest sum on offer on tour this season.

Why aren’t Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods playing at the Travelers Championship 2024?

One man who won’t be in contention, however, is Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman had been due to play this week but withdrew from the tournament following his collapse in the final few holes of the US Open, which allowed Bryson DeChambeau to win. McIlroy bogeyed three of his last four holes at Pinehurst No. 2 on Sunday, which included two missed putts from very close range, throwing away his chance of a first major in 10 years.

“I’m going to take a few weeks away from the game to process everything and build myself back up for my defense of the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open at Royal Troon,” the 35-year-old stated.

15-time major winner Tiger Woods won’t be playing either, despite receiving a lifetime achievement exemption from the PGA Tour earlier this week. That will enable him to feature in Signature Events from 2025 onwards but came too late for him to plan on being involved at TPC River Islands.

Scheffler heads stellar field

Everyone else you’d expect to be there will be, including Scottie Scheffler (World No.1), Xander Schauffele (No. 3), Ludvig Aberg (No. 4), Wyndham Clark (No. 5), Viktor Hovland (No. 6), Collin Morikawa (No. 7) and Patrick Cantlay (No. 8).

Keegan Bradley is the defending champion after winning his sixth PGA Tour title at last year’s event.
