What’s boxing champion Teofimo Lopez’s next goal?

Teofimo Lopez doesn’t have an undefeated record, unlike other young stars, but he has the talent and the charisma to be considered one of boxing’s stars.

The Brooklyn native lost to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021 in what has been his only defeat so far, and since then he has won all of his five following fights.

The last one was against Steve Claggett, a fighter who turned out to be one of his toughest opponents, as he was resilient in his attacks against Lopez and put relentless pressure on the WBO light welterweight champion. However, Lopez was the better man on the night and clearly outboxed the Canadian.

Despite being 26, Lopez feels he needs to keep making history in the sport and has set some new goals for his already successful career.

Teofimo Lopez reveals what’s his next challenge

The former unified World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), WBO, and Ring lightweight titleholder believes his talent will lead him towards more success if he keeps working like he has till now.

After winning world titles at 135 and 140 pounds, Lopez says he wants to become a three-weight world champion.

“I believe I still always have power. I’m still maturing as time goes. As far [as] power proceeds, it’s more so of IQ and EQ when you’re in that ring. And I think that’s really where I’m trying to progress myself to now”, he said.

“And [147 pounds] is something I plan on moving towards, probably even in this upcoming match. I believe what really sounds very swell is Teofimo Lopez, three divisional world champion at 27 years young”, Lopez added.

There are a few boxers at 147 that would be great matches for Teofimo, like Errol Spence, Mario Barrios, or Eimantas Staniosis, as well as who’s considered the most talented boxer in the division, Jaron Ennis.

However, if Lopez finally goes up in weight, he will likely take on the WBO interim welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr.
