What’s on after the Olympics? Sports schedule for the rest of the year: NFL, NBA, EPL, La Liga

If you’re like me, today you are waking up in a hazy fog of great appreciation and slight depression following what was an incredible slate of sports over the last few months. Last night’s Olympic Closing Ceremony was the send off to a jam packed summer sports schedule that kept us not only entertained, but enamored and entrenched during June, July and the early days of August.

Perfect send off from Paris

No longer are we waking up to Group Stages of the Euros which transition to afternoons and evenings of Copa America. Shortly after Spain lifted their fourth European Championship in a 2-1 thriller against England and Argentina beat Uruguay in the Copa America we transitioned from soccer to the Olympics.

After two and a half weeks of non-stop sports from the early morning until into the evening, Tom Cruise, Phoenix, Snoop Dog and the Red Hot Chili Peppers dismounted the Summer Games in a perfectly executed Olympics from Paris.

We saw Steph Curry lift Team USA against the rest of the world to secure his first gold medal and the United States’ fifth straight. We saw Mondo Duplantis enrapture the world with his insatiable drive to conquer his own world record. We saw a Turkish shooter become the coolest dude in Paris as he aimed his way into our hearts with a simple pair of glasses and a hand in his pocket.

Now that the fun is over and the smoke has cleared from the Closing Ceremonies in Stade de France, what’s next? Fear not, we won’t have to wait too long before the games begin yet again.

Soccer:

If you didn’t get you’re fix of the beautiful game over the last few months, fret not, real soccer, competitive soccer is back in our lives as of this week. We kickoff the season with the the European Supercup before teams commence their domestic leagues in the coming weeks. Then we will get our first glmpse at the new look Champions League next month.

Premier League: Matchday 1: Friday, August 16th - Monday, August 19th

La Liga: Matchday 1: Thursday, August 15th - Monday, August 19th

Champions League: Matchday 1: September 17th - September 19th

Football:

Football fanatics are foaming at the mouth as the countdown to kickoff gets closer and closer. For now we have the preseason. That will hold us over until the end of the month when College Football returns with Georgia Tech vs. Florida State from Ireland. Once the college kids are in full swing, that’s when the big boys join the party. The NFL begins on the first Thursday of September with a can’t miss match up between the Chiefs vs. Ravens from Arrowhead.

Preseason: Week 3: Thursday, August 16th - Sunday, August 18th

Week 4: Thursday, August 23rd - Sunday, August 25th

College: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State Saturday, August 24th, 12:00 p.m. ET

NFL: Ravens vs. Chiefs Thursday, September 5th

Packers vs. Eagles Friday, September 6th

Tennis:

Just a few weeks after Novak Djokovic took down Carlos Alcaraz in the gold medal match from Roland Garros, each will be trying for the fourth and final Grand Slam from Flushing Meadows.

US Open: Monday, August 26th - Sunday, September 8th

NBA:

There will be barely any rest for the weary, especially those basketball players who made deep playoff runs in the NBA before heading to Paris to represent their countries. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics were lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy, and they will be back on the hardwood sooner than you think.

NBA Tip-Off: Tuesday, October 22nd

MLB:

Just as the rest of the sports world is kicking into gear, the MLB’s regular season will be coming to a close. From now until the end of September, teams will be fighting for playoff positioning before postseason baseball begins in October.

Regular: season: now - September 29th

Playoffs: October 1st - October 22nd

World Series: October 25th - November 2nd
