What’s the tiebreaker between Washington, Detroit, and Pittsburg to enter the NHL playoffs?
The NHL has one more game on the schedule, and there is only one uncertainty: who will get to the playoffs before the end of the regular season.
The Eastern Conference in the NHL is currently witnessing fierce competition to secure the final playoff spot. The New York Islanders have already sealed their place in the playoffs by winning 4-1 on the road against the New Jersey Devils. This marks the fifth time in the last six years that the Islanders have advanced to compete for the Stanley Cup.
The Washington Capitals are the eighth-seeded team in the Eastern Conference and are in the most favorable position to reach the playoffs. They secured a crucial 2-0 victory against the Boston Bruins on their home ice, accumulating 89 points and currently holding eighth place in the conference. The Detroit Red Wings have the same number of points as the Capitals and clinched a thrilling 5-4 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens after staging a remarkable comeback. However, Washington holds the advantage due to having more regular-season wins than Detroit.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are also in contention for the final playoff spot, trailing behind the Capitals and Red Wings with one point less. The Penguins defeated the Nashville Predators 4-2 and are hoping for either of their two rivals to slip up to keep their NHL season alive.
In the final round of games, Washington will visit Philadelphia, Detroit will play Montreal and b. These games are paramount for all three teams as they will determine which team advances to the playoffs.
In the Western Conference, playoff spots have already been secured by the Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, and Vegas Golden Knights.
