Last night’s UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro saw Brandon Moreno and Jamahal Hill become undisputed Flyweight and Light Heavyweight champions respectively.

An edge-of-your-seat prelim card saw four finishes, with three being in the first round, including veteran Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua on the wrong end of a first-round TKO via ground and pound. The 41-year-old former UFC Light Heavyweight announced his retirement after the event, ending an incredible nearly 20-year career.

The main card kicked off with SBG Dublin-based Brazilian, Johnny Walker, TKO’ing Paul Craig in the Light Heavyweight division, one of five first round finishes across the night.

Next, in the women’s Flyweight division, Jessica Andrade defeated Lauren Murphy in a one-sided unanimous decision, the Brazilian’s third win in a row since coming up short against dominant division title holder, Valentina Shevchenko, in April 2021.

The third fight in the main card saw yet another strong performance by a Brazilian vs a non-Brazilian in the form of BJJ wizard Gilbert Burns submitting American Neil Magny in the first round with an arm triangle choke.

However, the hometown heroes’ luck would change as neither title fight saw a Brazilian competitor take the crown.

Moreno defeats Figueiredo

There was an epic finale to the Flyweight saga with interim Champion Brandon Moreno defeating Champion Deiveson Figueiredo in their fourth title matchup in two years. The Tijuana native unified the Flyweight belt with a TKO via doctor stoppage at the end of the third round.

Hill beats Teixeira

The last fight of the night saw 31-year-old American Jamahal Hill beat another Brazilian veteran in Glover Teixeira, who at 43 years old, announced his retirement after the bout. Hill became the Light Heavyweight champion after a dominant and unanimous judge’s decision.
