The 124th US Open took place on course number 2 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina from 13 and 16 June, the fourth time the tournament has been played at the venue. All eyes were once again on Scottie Scheffler after yet another victory at the Memorial Tournament in the previous week, as well as Rory McIlroy following his surprise reconciliation with wife Erica Stoll.

One of McIlroy’s four major victories came at the US Open in 2011, while Scheffler was still searching for his first win in the event having previously finished in a tie for second in 2022. In the end it was Bryson DeChambeau who did to Rory what Wyndham Clark had done the year before.

Who has won the U.S. Open the most times?

Jack Nicklaus has some company in the “Four Wins Club” at the US Open - Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, and Ben Hogan are all hanging out there too. Lurking just behind them on the honours list are Hale Irwin and Tiger Woods, the only two men to have triumphed on three occasions.

Most US Open wins

4 - Willie Anderson: 1901, 1903, 1904, 1905
4 - Bobby Jones: 1923, 1926, 1929, 1930
4 - Ben Hogan: 1948, 1950, 1951, 1953
4 - Jack Nicklaus: 1962, 1967, 1972, 1980
3- Hale Irwin: 1974, 1979, 1990
3- Tiger Woods: 2000, 2002, 2008

The 2024 edition is the second golf major won by DeChambeau, his previous one coming in the 2020 U.S. Open, and this one saw him collect the largest financial payout for a PGA major. The 30-year old switched to LIV Golf in 2022.
