David Benavidez, a boxer with Mexican and Ecuadorian roots from Phoenix, Arizona, is one of the top super middleweights and is poised to challenge Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez.

On March 25, Benavidez defeated Caleb Plant unanimously, earning himself a shot at Álvarez, who has avoided fighting him in the past despite ‘Red Flag’s’ record of 27 wins, 23 by knockout.

The North American, who proudly defends his Latin roots (Mexico through his father and Ecuador through his mother), is the interim WBC champion after his victory against Plant.

He knows that Álvarez cannot run away from him forever.

I have the interim WBC title. We have rankings for a reason, and I have won my place repeatedly... It’s not my fault that these assholes don’t want to fight me,” were Benavidez’s words a few months ago, asking for his opportunity against the Mexican.

Who is David Benavidez?

Benavidez started boxing in 2013 at 17 years old.

He had his first seven fights in Mexico before winning his first title after four years. He defeated Romanian boxer Ronald Gavril and became the youngest to win the WBC super middleweight title.

Benavidez’s (Red Flag) goal is to unify the super middleweight titles and take down ‘Canelo’ Álvarez. Is the dream fight going to happen in 2024?
