Jon Rahm, the talented Spanish golfer, claimed victory at the Augusta Masters on Sunday, securing his second major professional win and reclaiming the number one spot in the world golf rankings.

Rahm takes Masters and tops rankings

He defeated American Scottie Scheffler and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy to claim the coveted green jacket, presented to him by Scheffler, last year’s winner. The triumph came on the same day that legendary Spaniard Severiano Ballesteros would have turned 66, marking a poignant moment in the tournament’s history.

Rahm’s world ranking average stands at 10.87 points, surpassing Scheffler’s 10.56 and McIlroy’s 8.79, who failed to make the cut after the second day. Scheffler had previously taken the top spot from Rahm after winning The Players tournament on March 13th, during which Rahm had to withdraw due to gastroenteritis. However, Rahm has now reclaimed his position in style, while also topping the FedExCup rankings with 2,631 points.

“Still really hasn’t sinked in yet. I’m looking at the scores, and I still think I have a couple more holes left to win,” Rahm said shortly after he did sink his winning putt when he looked to the sky with his hands in prayer. “Can’t really say anything else. This one was for Seve. He was up there helping, and help he did.”

Patrick Cantlay, who missed out on a top position in the final round, remains in fourth place with 7.12 points, followed by Australian Cameron Smith and American Xander Schauffele. Meanwhile, fellow Spaniards Sergio García and José María Olazábal, did not make it to the final two days of the tournament, and García saw his world ranking fall from 161 to 166. Adri Arnaus, Adrián Otaegui, and Pablo Larrazábal also saw their rankings decrease.
