Who is playing in the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic? Field, top players, and predictions
In 2023, the PGA Tour schedule has a new spot for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which will be held at the Detroit Golf Club.
Exciting news for golf fans! The Motor City will welcome the PGA Tour again as the Rocket Mortgage Classic returns to Detroit Golf Club in 2023. The popularity of this golfing event has been on the rise, now in its fifth edition.
Detroit Golf Club boasts a rich history dating back to 1899. Despite its long-standing legacy, the PGA TOUR only recently introduced the Rocket Mortgage Classic on these grounds four years ago. Over the past few years, the tournament has seen various players hold the lead, making it an ideal opportunity to diversify exposure and place bets on underdogs with trending form.
The Detroit Golf Club course spans 7,370 yards and boasts a classic design without flashy features. Unlike many other courses, it does not have numerous water or lateral hazards, and although trees line the course, the broader fairways make it less of a test of positioning. The course also has non-penal rough and accessible, back-to-front sloping greens, exposing it to the PGA Tour’s bomb-and-gouge approach.
The lineup for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic boasts an impressive roster of PGA Tour players, possibly the most prestigious in the tournament’s five-year history. Almost all of the spots have been filled, with only five remaining. Fourteen of the top 50 golfers in the World Golf Rankings will compete at the Detroit Golf Club starting Thursday.
With previous champions like Bryson DeChambeau and other renowned players such as Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson having participated, the excitement is high to see who will conquer the challenge on the North Course, designed by the legendary Donald Ross. While players of all types have succeeded here, those with exceptional driving distance tend to have the best scoring potential due to the course’s forgiving nature towards off-target drives. As such, we recommend focusing on skilled putters, elite wedge players, and birdie-makers in easy scoring conditions, particularly on Poa-hybrid greens.
