Team Europe leads 3-1 after the opening day of the 2025 Laver Cup, held this year in San Francisco.
U.S. Open champion Carlos Alcaraz teamed up with Jakub Mensik to defeat American duo Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen in the first doubles match of the event, which closed out play on Friday.
Earlier, Casper Ruud defeated Reilly Opelka, and Mensik beat Michelsen in singles, giving Europe a 2-0 advantage.
João Fonseca pulled a point back for Team World, captained by Andre Agassi, with a win over Flavio Cobolli.

The three-day tournament features five sessions of play: two on Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday. A total of 24 points are available, with the first team to 13 claiming victory.
On Saturday, players will compete in three singles matches and one doubles match, each worth two points.

2025 Laver Cup format
Friday and Saturday followed the same format, but things will change for the final day of play.
Sunday, September 21, starts with one doubles match. If necessary, up to three singles matches can follow. Each Sunday match is worth three points.
Laver Cup tiebreaker and lineups
If the teams are tied at 12 points each, a decisive doubles match will determine the Laver Cup winner.
Sunday’s lineup will be announced one hour after Saturday’s matches conclude.
