Who will Carlos Alcaraz play in the Wimbledon final?
The Spanish sensation is back in the final where he’ll meet Djokovic once again, after the Serb beat Italian Musetti in straight sets.
Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championship, where he will play Novak Djovic, with a four-set victory over Daniil Medvedev in Friday’s semi-final. The Spaniard lost the first set but quickly took charge of the match, storming to a 7-6, 3-6, 4-6, 4-6 victory.
Speaking after the match Alcaraz said: “Different conditions, but happy with my performance today. He was dominating the match and playing great tennis with his serves. It was difficult for me and he tried to pull out all the shots.
Alcaraz is looking to be crowned Wimbledon champion for a second successive year. Last year Alcaraz broke the stranglehold of Serbian Novak Djokovic, who had won the previous four editions of the championship.
Who is Alcaraz’ opponent for the Wimbledon final?
Alcaraz will play Novak Djokovic in the final. The second Wimbledon semi-final was played straight after Alcaraz’s win, and while Italian Lorenzo Musetti fought bravely he was unable to stop an irresistible Novak Djokovic who won in straight sets and moves into the final as he goes for an eighth Wimbledon title.
Still only 21 years old, Alcaraz has considerable experience in finals and has already won three of the four singles Grand Slam tournaments. Alcaraz is the youngest player to reach No. 1 in the ATP Rankings, doing so at the age of 19 years, 4 months and 6 days.
“I know how I feel before the final I have been in this position before - I will try to do the things that I didn’t do last year and be better,” Alcaraz explained after beating Medvedev on Friday. “I will also try the things that went well - it will be a good day for Spanish people as well!” That comment about Euro 2024 DID NOT go down well with the English crowd, but Alcaraz quickly explained he just meant it would be a good day of sport and was soon feeling the love again.
