Who’s playing at the 2023 LIV Golf Valderrama event? Field, top players and predictions
With the LIV Golf tour headed back to Europe, we check out the players and predictions for the 2023 Valderrama event.
The Real Club Valderrama in southern Spain will welcome the LIV Golf tour as a lineup of stars such as Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Phil Mickelson will compete for the first ever appearance by LIV in continental Europe.
Widely considered to be Europe’s answer to Augusta, Valderrama is immaculately manicured and has a real championship pedigree.
Following the now-standard LIV Golf format, Valderrama will see 12 teams, 48 players, three rounds of tournament play, shotgun starts, no cuts, shorter playing windows and smaller fields.
The tournament’s prize pool is a staggering $25 million, with $20 million allocated to the individual competition and $5 million to the team competition.
The winner of the individual competition will pocket $4 million while the winning team will divvy up $3 million.
The players to keep your eye on are Sergio Garcia, Harold Varner III, and Abraham Ancer. Garcia has won here three times previously and will be captaining Fireballs GC. He is the odd-on favorite to win here in 2023.
Varner will play for Torque GC and has already won at Washington DC this year, making him a serious challenger for the title in Valderrama.
