It’s more than a month before the showdown between Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 17, but things are already heating up between the two.

The boxer from Kazakhstan has not minced his words when it comes to what he thinks of the Mexican.

In an interview for the New Herald, Golovkin stated that Álvarez has proven to be an insecure person based on his behavior during the press conferences to promote their fight.

His behavior at press conferences shows how insecure he is. […] He drew conclusions based on the first conference. His behavior was different in the second, he analyzed that he looked ridiculous," said the Kazakh.

In the same way, Golovkin declared that the 32-year-old still is still quite a long way from becoming the best pound-for-pound boxer.

“For a fighter of this caliber, someone who wants to be great, this shows that he still needs to grow, he needs to learn a lot. He is far from being the best”, said the 40-year-old boxer.

Canelo vs. Golovkin:Inevitable trilogy

After fighting twice in the space of a year between 2017 and 2018, it took four years for the third match between Golovkin and Álvarez to take place. However, GGG knew the trilogy was inevitable.

Let’s be honest, Canelo and I knew this fight was going to happen at some point. If there’s logic in boxing, it’s obvious. Everything that he did during that period, the fights that he has had and what I have done in that time, everything was for this fight. It was delayed, but that’s another story, we knew this fight would happen, “said GGG.
