Straka intends to play in the Tour Championship next week, but he won’t be at Cave’s Valley Golf Club near Baltimore for the second-to-last tournament of the 2025 season.
Why isn’t Sepp Straka playing in the 2025 BMW Championship?
Straka has had another very good season. He’s currently 5th in the FedEx Cup points ranking and stands in sixth place for the European Ryder Cup team. If he didn’t get an automatic spot, he would almost certainly get the nod for Luke Donald considering the way he’s been playing. In 21 events in 2025 he has two wins, six top 10s and has only missed four cuts all season.
Why isn’t Straka playing in the BMW Championship?
All we know is what was shared in the tweet above. It is unclear what the private family matter is and all we can do is hope it’s nothing too serious. Straka will be eligible to play the 30-man event at East Lake even though he won’t get any points at the BMW Championship.
The Georgia Bulldog alum has already earned $10.3 million this year, which is more money than the last two seasons combined. Straka also got $6 million in bonus payouts for FedEx Cup rankings and Comcast bonus money.
We look forward to seeing him back next week as he and his European Ryder Cup teammates try to ramp up their games as they face the Americans at Bethpage Black at the end of September in what promises to be an epic showdown.
