Why isn’t Ted Scott caddying for Scottie Scheffler? This is who’s on the World No. 1’s bag at the BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler heads intothe BMW Championship as world No. 1. However, at this PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs event, Scheffler will play with Mike Cromie on the bag instead of his regular caddie, Ted Scott.

The reason Ted Scott isn’t caddying for Scottie Scheffler

Here’s what we know about the unexpected caddie switch.

Given Scheffler’s dominance on the PGA Tour in recent seasons, much has been made about Scott’s potential earnings in recent years, which, although not fully disclosed, are likely higher than those of many players on tour.

It has been reported that Scott had to return home unexpectedly to attend a family matter, forcing a last-minute change last week and missed the final round. Brad Payne filled in for him on Sunday.

Scott has been on the bag for all 17 of Scheffler’s PGA Tour wins, which might raise questions about how this will impact the World No. 1 in the BMW Championship.

“I think Ted’s where he needs to be right now, and I think caddying is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be,” Scheffler said. “I’ve been able to talk to him a few times. The family is in good spirits. Everybody seems to be doing well.”

Who is Mike Cromie? Scheffler’s ‘new’ caddie?

However, Cromie is by no means an unfamiliar figure and is Chris Kirk’s regular caddie. He played college golf at Georgia and had four top-10 finishes during his senior year with the Bulldogs. As Kirk’s caddie, he has helped him earn over $35 million over the years and almost helped Kirk make the top-50 to play in this week’s BMW Championship, but he missed out by one stroke.

Scheffler has been in imperious form lately, finishing in the top eight in his last 12 tournaments and winning four of his last nine starts. But a caddie change adds an unexpected twist to the second-to-last event on the PGA Tour this year as he chases another PGA Tour victory.
