Why isn’t Tiger Woods playing at the 2023 British Open?
He withdrew from the Masters in April and had an ankle procedure. As a result, he could not participate in both the PGA Championship and US Open.
It has been reported that Tiger Woods notified the R&A that he would not participate in the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. After withdrawing from the Masters in April and undergoing an ankle procedure later that month, he could not compete in the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. As a result, Tiger will not be playing in any Major golf tournaments this season except the opening rounds of the Masters, where he made the cut.
Considering his current physical condition, it’s unsurprising that Woods won’t play in The Open. He has only participated in one of the last five Open Championships, and last year at St. Andrews, he failed to make the cut, which could have been his previous professional appearance on that course. This April surgery adds to a series of injuries, surgeries, and setbacks that Woods has faced in the later years of his career. His right leg, which underwent surgery, has been causing problems repeatedly.
Woods is experiencing a lot of pain
Updates on Tiger Woods’ health status were recently shared by Jason Day, a professional golfer from Australia and a close companion of Woods. Day revealed that Woods has been experiencing significant pain and difficulty walking due to a screw implanted in his leg after a severe accident last year.
Woods has faced numerous injuries throughout the latter part of his career, having played in only 21 of 35 possible majors since 2014 and achieving just three top 10s in that time. Remarkably, one of those top 10s was a victory at the 2019 Masters. Despite winning 15 major championships, including the 2006 Royal Liverpool, Woods has hinted at the possibility of retiring from playing.
“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” said Woods at the Masters in April. “So just to be able to appreciate the time that I have here and cherish the memories. But still, to just look at the golf course, it looks like it’s been here for over a hundred years and hasn’t changed, and each and every year we come here, everything has changed since I first played here.”
