The PGA Tour makes its final stop in Texas this season for the Charles Schwab Challenge, which begins Thursday at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth with the action running through to Sunday’s final round.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is among the top favourites competing for the overall purse of $9.1M with the winner alone set to pocket $1.638M with Argentine Emiliano Grillo the reigning champion.

Other challengers hoping to challenge Scheffler will be the likes of Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, Tom Kim and Justin Rose with the field including 23 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking and 66 players who competed in last week’s PGA Championship.

Fort Worth absentees

Some big names will be absent at the Colonial Country Club with Rory McIlroy generating recent headlines following turbulence in his personal life. Over the years the Northern Irish player has traditionally skipped the Charles Schwab Challenge since joining the PGA Tour, playing the event only once (tied for 32 in 2020).

Wyndham Clark, Viktor Holvand and Ludwig Aberg (world’s number two to six) are other big names who won’t be teeing up at the Forth Worth course over the next four days with newly crowned PGA champion Xander Schauffele the other key absentee. After the exertions of the PGA win last weekend in Louisiana, the San Diego native is taking some days away from the game to recharge the batteries.
