Why was Ryan García arrested in Beverly Hills?
The boxer was arrested in Beverly Hills before being transferred to a local hospital.
American boxer Ryan García was arrested in Beverly Hills on Saturday. He was seen wearing a helmet as police escorted him out of the Waldorf Astoria hotel under charges of felony vandalism.
The New York Post report that “Garcia was led out of the hotel peacefully and without problems.”
García’s attorney told TMZ that the athlete “was taken by the BHPD to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment and to our knowledge, may be charged with public intoxication”.
TMZ added that García may well have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol while he committed the act: in California, any damage over $400 can be considered a felony.
The former WBC interim lightweight champion was embroiled in recent controversy after he tested positive for banned substances in an anti-doping test. Ostarine was found in the fighter’s system following a fight with Devin Haney.
The police were also called in for a welfare check after one of his family members feared the 25-1 fighter’s might need assistance. Questions surrounding his mental health have also been raised.
The news outlet also added that García is also dealing with personal issues as “his mom, according to the fighter, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer”.
