With this latest development it’s now the second time in recent months that the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury fight may be postponed. That is, if Fury can’t get into the United States.

Tommy Fury barred from entering the U.S.A

According to his post on social media, the “Love Island” star and professional boxer has been denied entry to the U.S.A. ahead of his August 6th bout against Jake Paul in Madison Square Garden. Fury advised through a post on Instagram that among varying issues, it was a visa problem that saw him prohibited from traveling to the United States. Fury also added that his ESTA had been denied by Homeland Security and that though he had attempted to resolve the situation, he was not allowed to travel.

“Me and my team this morning arrived at Heathrow Airport ready for the press conference, ready to fly out. As soon as I entered the airport, I got pulled to one side, and I was told by a homeland security officer that was there that my ESTA had been denied, and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know,” Fury said. “I can stand here and say I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, and I have no clue why I am not allowed to travel to the USA. Like I said, I’ve been training for a fight for this whole time, and that’s all I’ve been doing. I have no clue why they would not allow me to travel today, and neither does any of my team or my lawyers. Now, I’m having to go to embassies and all this sort of stuff to try and resolve it.” Incidentally, Most Valuable Promotions has since released a statement advising that the scheduled news conference in New York is now postponed.

Are there other reasons why Tommy Fury can’t enter the U.S.A.?

One interesting piece of information to note is the situation surrounding Daniel Kinahan, the founder of the now defunct boxing promotions company MTK Global. Kinahan was recently named by Dublin’s High Court as a senior figure in organized crime. That included but was not limited to involvement in international drug-trafficking operations and firearm offenses. Since then U.S. officials have announced a $15 million reward regarding any information on Daniel Kinahan and his family. The U.S. has also barred anyone connected to Kinahan from entering the country, which includes Tyson Fury and his camp with the boxer having previously been advised by Kinahan.

Who is Tommy Fury?

The half-brother of Tyson Fury, Tommy has been fighting professionally since 2018. In 2021 he won four fights including one against Anthony Taylor which was actually on the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley fight card. His most recent fight also ended in victory at Wembley Stadium back in April when he defeated Daniel Bocianski. As mentioned above this is not the first time that Fury’s fight with Paul has been under threat. The pair were due to face off last December, however, Fury pulled out of the fight at the last minute after alleging that he had suffered a broken rib. Since that time the two have been waging a war of words.

To make matters even more complicated, Tommy’s father, John recently disclosed that his son may also be without his entire team when he takes on Paul. John Fury has been denied a visa to travel to the U.S.A on several occasions after being found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The conviction stemmed from a 2010 incident when he gouged a man’s eye out in a brawl. “You can have the fight on Aug. 6, but it has got to be not in America because all of us at the minute are suspended and banned for life. I can’t get there at all,” Fury said. “Tyson can’t get over there because he has a few issues at the moment that he is trying to sort out. So Tommy has got no team.”

What’s the low down on the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury?

What’s clear at the moment is that things are up in the air. Via their statement on social media Most Valuable Promotions has indicated that they will be working with Showtime and Madison Square Garden regarding the situation and will be updating fans with any new developments as soon as possible. As per reports, however, the issue apparently lies with Fury and Queensberry Promotions. Assuming the two parties can resolve the problem, the fight will go ahead. To that end there has been no direct indication that the fight is off.

As for Jake Paul, the Youtube star turned boxer wasted no time in hitting out at Fury. “Tommy, no matter how hard u try to get out of this fight, I’m going 2 do everything in my power 2 not let u weasel ur way out. My team & my partners have made it clear the steps u need to take 2 solve ur latest excuse. Take them or admit ur a scared little bitch. #TommyFumbles”
