Will lightning or rain delay UFC Freedom 250 at the White House?
The UFC is taking a massive gamble by bringing an outdoor cage into a suffocating a D.C. summer.

UFC Freedom 250 is set to kick off in just a few hours, and the weather reports don’t look good for Dana White and President Donald Trump’s massive celebration of the United States’ 250 anniversary.
The storm threat hanging over the White House
The UFC is taking a massive gamble with this outdoor setup. According to The Weather Channel, there is a 60% chance of severe thunderstorms, torrential downpours, and wind gusts peaking at 34 mph. The network also warned that suffocating Washington, D.C. humidity is driving the heat index into the triple digits, creating a grueling environment alongside massive swarms of mosquitoes and gnats.
While the massive claw installed over the White House lawn will keep the Octagon itself dry from the rain, a single lightning strike within eight miles will trigger an automatic 30-minute weather delay.

“The only thing that can really crush us is lightning,” UFC CEO Dana White told Rich Kleiman on Boardroom Talks last month. “Anybody who has kids that play soccer or whatever knows—as soon as lightning hits, it’s a wrap. Everybody’s gotta go and hide. So if lightning happens that night, we’ll wait it out until it goes away, and we’ll do the show a little bit later or however that plays out. Hopefully, none of that shit happens.”
UFC issues warnings to fans in D.C.
With just four hours until the preliminary bouts begin, the UFC has already issued alerts to attendees at the official Fan Fest held at The Ellipse in President’s Park. UFC warned fans that they “anticipate inclement weather in the area, so attendees should plan accordingly.” For those heading to the fan fest, bringing an umbrella is highly advised.

UFC at the White House on Trump’s 80th Birthday
While many expected the event to be celebrated on Independence Day, it is instead being held on Flag Day, falling right on President Trump’s 80th birthday. Because Flag Day is not a federal holiday, only one state, Pennsylvania, recognizes it as a paid day off. This leaves millions of working Americans without the opportunity to watch the event.
According to UFC CEO Dana White, President Trump will personally hand out 1,000 tickets, White will receive 200, and TKO Group Holdings CEO Ari Emanuel will distribute 200. The remaining seats will be allocated to various branches of the military, but the guest list is facing strict physical scrutiny.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made it clear that there will be no “fat troops” or “fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon” allowed at the event, enforcing strict weight, height, and uniform compliance for all active duty attendees.
