Will Ryan Garcia skip rehab to be his brother Sean’s main coach?

Amado Vargas knocked out Sean Garcia and his brother Ryan shared a video asking for a rematch, offering $250,000 to the winner.

Ryan Garcia won’t be able to step into the ring in one year, as he was punished after testing positive for Ostarine during his fight against the WBC super lightweight champion, Devin Haney.

KingRy, regarded as one of the most promising and talented boxers, missed weight in his fight with The Dream so he lost the chance of fighting for the title and had to pay Haney $1,5 million after weighing in three pounds overweight.

If that wasn’t enough, Garcia was again in the spotlight after a series of racist comments on social media, something the World Boxing Council (WBC) didn’t forgive, as Garcia was expelled from the organization after that.

Will Garcia be his brother’s main coach?

When it seemed Ryan Garcia was working to get his life back on track, he took a step back again. The American revealed that he would go to rehabilitation after his racist posts, but he has decided to put that idea on hold. His brother Sean Garcia (7-1-1, 2 KO) lost to Amado Vargas (11-0-0, 5 KO) last weekend and Ryan has offered to train him for a rematch.

“So I skipped rehab to watch my brother get stopped, that’s okay,” Garcia shared in a video on his Instagram account. Sean Garcia and Amado Vargas fought on the Nate Díaz vs. Jorge Masvidal card last Saturday, and Ryan shared he couldn’t attend the event. However, he was seen next to his brother during the ringwalk and supporting him in the corner.

Sean didn’t make weight, as he was 3.2 pounds over the 135 limit. That reminded fans of his brother Ryan, who also weighed 3.1 pounds heavier than expected before his fight with Devin Haney (31-0-0, 15 KO). Ryan even congratulated Sean for missing weight, although the fight result wasn’t the same as Ryan’s one with Haney.

Amado came out hungry, at top intensity. He sent the younger of the Garcia brothers to the canvas with a hook, and, in the sixth round, the referee stopped the punishment, with Vargas celebrating the win.

“I’ve now committed to being Sean’s head trainer”, Ryan revealed. After losing for the first time in his career, Sean and Ryan asked the Vargas team for a rematch. “We demand the rematch, I’ll put up $250,000, winner takes all”, Ryan added on his Instagram profile.

Amado and his brothers agreed with the offer, answering Ryan’s post. “Bet... No worries we got Canelo assisting for the rematch”, said Fernando Vargas Jr.

Ryan Garcia skips rehab

Ryan had been showing some strange behavior for a few months. His mental health and addiction problems worried Garcia’s closest people, who committed to helping him.

Before his fight with Haney, he posted strange images and comments on social media. Haney accused him of having started drinking and consuming cocaine again. In 2021, García suffered from depression that led to alcoholism.

After overwhelming Haney in the fight against all odds, as he seemed to have lost his focus after missing weight, he tested positive for Ostarine, a banned substance, and was suspended for a year.

His behavior didn’t improve and he made some racist comments that made the World Boxing Council (WBC) expel him from the organization. They stated they offered to help him and that Ryan refused. After several complaints, the boxer revealed he would go to rehab, but he decided to skip it to help his brother in his rematch against Amado.
