Will Usyk hang up his gloves after Dubois? These are his retirement plans
Wembley will host Oleksandr Usyk’s penultimate fight with Daniel Dubois attempting to be the first opponent to beat him.
Oleksandr Usyk heads into this evening’s fight against Daniel Dubois with all four major heavyweight world titles on the line – WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF – as well as his undisputed heavyweight champion title at stake..
The Ukrainian, who turned 38 in January, will also be aiming to preserve his flawless record (23-0-0) when he steps into the ring against the English contender at Wembley.
Usyk had already hinted that his boxing days are nearing an end and that tonight’s rematch with Dubois will be his penultimate bout.
“[I’m still boxing] because Jesus gives me the opportunity, and I take this,” the undisputed heavyweight world champion told DAZN. “Now my goal is to become a three-time undisputed. Listen, I love boxing, training hard. I guess it’s my last two fights, with Dubois and next, I don’t know who. I’ll talk to you after this fight, it’s my life.”
Who could Usyk face in the last fight of his professional career?
His comments have intrigued fans, who are placing bets on who he will step into the ring with for his swansong. New Zealand’s Joseph Parker has been mentioned as the mandatory challenger for the WBO belt. One last sparring match against Tyson Fury has also been mooted. Usyk served the Gypsy King the only two defeats of his professional boxing career, winning the February 2024 bout by spit decision and the rematch a few months later by unanimous decision. Whether Fury can be coaxed out of retirement or not for Usyk’s last dance is the big question.
