Novak Djokovic was a strong favorite to win the men’s singles title coming into Wimbledon 2022, and now he’s one win away from fulfilling these predictions.

The Serb lost the first set of the semifinal to British number one Cameron Norrie, but came back ruthlessly to prevail, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. The victory extends his win-streak at the All England Club to 27, and brings him to his eighth championship appearance at Wimbledon.

The 35-year-old has only had one defeat in a final at the British major- back in 2013 at the hands of Andy Murray, who took three sets to win the title.

On Sunday, Djokovic will face Nick Kyrgios of Australia, who automatically got his slot after Rafael Nadal backed out of the semifinals due to an abdominal tear.

Novak Djokovic: Going for Wimbledon history

The tournament’s top seed is currently at third place on the list of men with the most singles titles at Wimbledon, with six trophies to his name. If he defeats the controversial Australian, he would move up to tie Pete Sampras who sits at second place with seven. That would only be one short of Roger Federer, who tops the list with eight championships won.

Djokovic is also one win away from capturing his fourth consecutive Wimbledon trophy and 21st Grand Slam title. This number would lift him above Federer with whom he is currently tied with 20 major trophies, and bring him closer to Rafael Nadal, who holds the biggest number with 22 Grand Slam titles under his belt.
