Wimbledon 2022 Women’s Finals Jabeur vs. Rybakina: What time, TV and how to watch online
The stage has been set for the women’s final at Wimbledon - Ons Jabeur of Tunisia will go up against Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan for the championship.
Both women who reached the final stage of the Wimbledon women’s singles competition had never reached a major semifinal before, and are now first-timers at a Grand Slam final.
Ons Jabeur of Tunisia defeated Tatjana Maria of Germany 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, to get her shot at the trophy, while Elena Rybakina cruised past Simona Halep of Romania in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Jabeur made history as the first African woman and first Arab, male or female, to reach the finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
Meanwhile, No. 17 seed Rybakina made use of her powerful serve to upset Halep, the 2019 Wimbledon champion.
It’s not the first time for Jabeur and Rybakina to play against each other. They have fought it out on the court three times since 2019, with the Tunisian having a 2-1 advantage.
This finals game sees the continuation of a trend in women’s tennis where up-and-coming players reach the finals of Grand Slam events without previously having made it to a major semifinal.
The matchup is the first final at the All England Club in 60 years where both women are playing in a major final for the first time. Whoever prevails on Saturday will also be the fifth consecutive first-time women’s champion at the All England Club.
