These are the most interesting matches of today’s program in the women’s draw of the 2024 Italia Open played in Rome. In the first match of the program, Iga Swiatek won against Putintseva, 6-3, 6-4, in a tricky third-round match and advanced to the Round of 16 in Rome.

Paula Badosa (ESP) vs Diana Shnaider

Diana Shnaider and Paula Badosa Gibert are scheduled to compete against each other for the 4th time in the 3rd round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The match is set to take place on Saturday at 11:00 am on PIETRANGELI. Badosa leads their head-to-head, having won 2 out of the 3 encounters they have had so far. Both players are known for their exceptional skills on clay courts.

In their most recent meeting, which took place in April 2024 in Stuttgart, Badosa won comfortably 6-3 6-4 in the 1st round. Diana had to beat Greetje Minnen 6-2 6-3 and Liudmila Samsonova 6-1 6-3 to reach the 3rd round. Meanwhile, Badosa defeated Mirra Andreeva 6-2 6-3 and Emma Navarro 1-6 6-4 6-2 to reach the same stage.

In the 2nd round, Diana had a comfortable straight-sets win against Samsonova, scoring 64 points compared to Samsonova’s 43. She was quite aggressive and managed to blast 19 winners. On the other hand, Badosa had a tough match against Navarro, in which she recovered from a 1-set deficit before winning 1-6 6-4 6-2. During the match, Badosa scored 91 points vs Navarro’s 86 and hit 34 winners.

Daria Kasatkina vs Naomi Osaka (JPN)

The match of the day at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome is between Naomi Osaka and Daria Kasatkina in the Round of 32. This is expected to be an exciting match as Osaka is starting to find her form again. She won her opener against Clara Burel 7-6 (2), 6-1, and followed it up with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marta Kostyuk, a top player in 2024. Now, Osaka will look to continue her progress and I think she has what it takes to beat Kasatkina on clay.

Kasatkina is a tough opponent on clay due to her ability to hit heavy topspin and defend the baseline. She also has more variety than most players on the tour, with her slice being an effective weapon. However, holding serve can be a struggle for Kasatkina. Her first serve can get away from her and she has one of the worst second serves amongst top players in the world. This could be a problem against Osaka, who should be able to take advantage of any weak second serves. Osaka is also capable of holding her serve when it’s her turn. So, any missed opportunities for Kasatkina could be costly.

Coco Gauff (USA) vs Jaqueline Cristian (ROU)

This upcoming tennis match between Coco Gauff and Jaqueline Cristian will be their first encounter, making it unpredictable and exciting. Both players possess unique strengths, and analyzing their recent matches can provide insights into their current form and potential strategies for this matchup.

Gauff comes into the match with a strong season record of 22 wins and 7 losses. Her performance on clay has been impressive, highlighting her adaptability and strategic improvements. Gauff is known for her powerful serves and dynamic gameplay and will aim to dominate early on and control the tempo of the match.

On the other hand, Jaqueline Cristian has shown resilience and skill, particularly on clay, with a respectable record of 10 wins and 4 losses this season. Her ability to handle high-pressure situations and play consistently could give her an advantage in longer rallies against Gauff.
