WWE legend Rick Flair to have one last match

According to reports on Monday, the legendary Rick Flair will make one last appearance in the ring for his final wrestling match which is slated for July 31st. Flair, who is widely considered to be the greatest professional wrestler of all time is now 73 years old, but that doesn’t seem to be in any way a problem for the wrestling icon.

The match itself is part of an a scheduled event which is tied to the Starrcast wrestling fan convention in Nashville, Tennessee and will take place just one day after the WWE hosts its annual SummerSlam in the very same city. According to Starrcast’s official website, the event is “under the banner of Jim Crockett Promotions.” It is being produced by Triller-affiliated Thuzio and will be streaming live on Fite TV. It should be said that official details of the match are still unknown, which is to say it’s not clear whether it will be a traditional tag team or six man match - often the case in matches involving older wrestlers.

A look back at Rick Flair’s career

Though hard to fathom, Flair began his wrestling career way back in 1972, but would actually become a household name with the aforementioned Jim Crocket Promotions. Indeed, Flair became the face of the National Wrestling Alliance where he became World Champion. In keeping with that title, the man they called ‘The Nature Boy’ would go ont to wrestle all over the globe, most notably in Japan. While he is well known in WWE circles, it was undoubtedly his time wrestling in the NWA and WCW when he truly become legend.

Interestingly, ‘Slic Rick’ as he’s also known has retired on several occasions in the past. There was WrestleMania 24, when he lost a roller coaster match to Shawn Michaels with his career dangling in the balance. That moment came following several other ‘retirement matches,’ but just short of two years later Flair would be locking arms with Hulk Hogan during a tour in Australia. The seemingly last match of his career came in 2011 when he suffered a terrible injury in a match against Sting, tearing his tricep. Flair would later state that it was in fact the last time he would compete.

Rick Flair has had health problems

Regardless of age, one can safely assume that Flair’s body has seen its share of battering and bruising over the years. It’s not wonder then that wrestling legend has had his fair share of health concerns. Known to suffer from a heart condition, Flair also suffered kidney failure in the past after undergoing an operation to remove piece of his bowel back in 2017. That, however, is simply testament to the spirit of a man who is officially a 16 time world champion.
