Update:

Michael Schumacher, the Formula One legend, has been seen in public for the first time in over ten years, since suffering a tragic accident while skiing in the French Alps in 2013.

According to reports in Germany, the seven-time F1 champion, was present at the wedding of his daughter, Gina Maria, last Saturday. The marriage took place at the Schumacher family villa in Majorca, with Gina Maria tying the knot with Iain Bethke.

German media reported that Michael Schumacher was there to witness the celebrations and was present in front of other guests, though it was also reported that guests were asked to leave their mobile phones and cameras at the door to avoid any photos of Schumacher being taken.

Schumacher’s long road to recovery

After the accident in 2013, Schumacher was left in a coma having suffered a traumatic brain injury. His wife, Corinna, is fiercely protective of him and only a few friends and family are allowed to visit him, with few fully aware of the details of his condition.

After leaving hospital the year after the accident, Schumacher returned to his family home on Lake Geneva, requiring round-the-clock medical care from a team of medical professionals.

In 2019, an anonymous source reported that Schumacher was conscious, having allegedly spent six years in a coma. FIA president Jean Todt who visited Schumacher in 2019 said he was “making good progress” but was still struggling to communicate.
