Alejandro Zendejas: “The USMNT is the best team in CONCACAF”
The recently-committed Club América winger believes that the United States is better than Mexico or Canada in CONCACAF.
After committing to the United States men’s national team, Alejandro Zendejas made his official debut against Grenada on Friday on matchday five of the CONCACAF Nations League at Kirani James National stadium. The Club América attacker came in as a substitute in the 72nd minute and curled in the ball from distance to make it 7-1.
The USMNT secured the first place in Group D in the tournament and they need a tie or a win against El Salvador on Monday to secure their ticket to the next round. Prior to hosting Los Cuscatlecos at Exploria stadium, Alex Zendejas told Telemundo that right now the United States is the team to beat in CONCACAF.
The USMNT is the ‘king’ of the region
“Right now we [USMNT] are the best national team in CONCACAF. I think the United States, Canada and Mexico are in a similar level, but right now we are a step above the other teams,” said Alejandro Zendejas.
The United States remains undefeated against Mexico in their last four meetings across all competitions with a record of three wins and one draw. The USMNT was able to defeat Mexico in back-to-back finals to win the Gold Cup and Nations League trophies in 2021. They will meet again on 19 April in the inaugural Continental Clásico in Glendale, Arizona.
