Alexander Isak has put pen to paper on a six-year deal with Newcastle United, becoming their all-time record signing.

Newcastle agreed a deal worth in the region of £60million with Real Sociedad to sign the forward.

The Magpies are finalising paperwork in the hope he will be registered in time to face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

The 22-year-old becomes the club’s record signing, ahead of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Isak ‘delighted’ to get deal over the line

On joining Newcastle, Isak said: “I’m delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.

“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.

“You always want to go into a team and know how they play. I think Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that.”

He will become Newcastle’s fourth senior signing of the summer after moves for Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

Who is Alexander Isak?

Born in Solna, Stockholm, and of Eritrean descent, he began his career at local club AIK before being signed by Borussia Dortmund.

Isak is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe. He has scored nine goals in 37 international appearances for Sweden.

Following a successful loan spell at Dutch side Willem II, where he scored 13 goals in 16 Eredivisie appearances, Isak moved to La Real.

For Real Sociedad, he scored 33 in 105 La Liga appearances since moving to the Basque side from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

It did not take the Swede long to adapt to life in San Sebastián, scoring seven goals in the 2019-20 Copa del Rey, helping the club win its first major trophy since 1987.
