Following the recent news that Lionel Messi will join MLS side Inter Miami, there has been an increased international focus on the North American league with many feeling that the arrival of the Argentine in South Florida will be a ‘game changer’ for MLS.

Former US star and now Fox Soccer television analyst Alexi Lalas offered his thoughts on the impending arrival of the former FGC Barcelona and PSG star at the DRV PNK Stadium outfit.

Speaking to TMZ, Lalas was clear on the Messi impact: “We’re already seeing incredible names now being linked to to Inter Miami,” Lalas said. “It’s almost as if they’re in the process of potentially creating this MLS superclub Death Star, and the hate-watching is going to be absolutely epic!” stated the 53-year-old man casually dropping a reference to the Star Wars saga.

He added: “I know if I was on another team -- a less sexy team, for example -- and Miami was doing all of this,” he said, “and one of the greatest to ever play is there, I would want to kick his ass”.

The former Calcio Padova (Serie A), CS Emelec (Ecuador) and LA Galaxy (MLS) player concluded stating: “This is a wonderful day for soccer; this is a wonderful time for MLS -- and America in general,” Lalas said, “because this is a pretty cool thing to see.”

What players have been linked with Inter Miami?

MLS regulations make it difficult for more global superstars to join The Herons despite the likes of Neymar, Sergio Busquets or Ángel Di María being linked to a move to the Florida based club. At present, current Inter players such as DeAndre Yedlin, Kamal Miller, Josef Martínez and Leonardo Campana will ll be looking forward to be able call Messi as a team-mate when the move materialises in July.
