Spain have started their final training camp for the World Cup; the 23 internationals have already said goodbye to both their holidays and their loved ones as until after the tournament there will be no time to rest. Since Sunday, the 23-player squad have been training in Spain’s Las Rozas complex in the north of the capital.

One of the most surprising images of the start of the camp is that of Alexia Putellas: the Barcelona midfielder has undergone a makeover. The midfielder from Mollet del Vallès has left behind her platinum blonde hair and decided to dye it pink. It has taken the internet by storm and for one reason in particular: her hair colour is reminiscent of Megan Rapinoe at the World Cup in France.

‘Look good, feel good, play good’

In 2019, the American showed off to the world her new, flashy look ahead of the showpiece event. In that tournament on French soil, Rapinoe ended up as the Golden Boot and the best player of the World Cup, as well as representing everything she did off the pitch, away from the action.

“I always tell myself: look good, feel good and play good, in that order. You have to have that for yourself. When you have that, you just go out there with less pressure,” she said.

“It was a fun way to express my style and my individuality. Obviously at a World Cup everything is so serious and stressful. It was a fun way to send everyone to hell,” she said. “I always want to look pretty, if you want to be sporty do you have to be masculine? I can be strong and competitive and feel beautiful,” she said.

We’ll see if Alexia has a reason similar to that of Rapinoe, who will be looking to win yet another World Cup. The Spaniard will travel to Australia and New Zealand as one of the great hopes of the tournament. As a double Ballon d’Or winner, she won’t have any trouble not being recognised, and now, that is even more the case.
