It’s the week of El Clasico Nacional in Liga MX and without a doubt the match comes at a time with both sides enjoying rich veins of form as America have won in their past nine games and Chivas are six games without losing. However, before the clash at the Estadio Azteca, both teams have matches pending in the middle of the week in games that could have important implications in the final phase of the Apertura 2022.

America and a play-off place

Las Águilas will host Santos Laguna on Wednesday 14 September in a match pending from matchday 5 with the Laguneros also in good form and currently sitting in fourth place in the table.

Should America win at the Azteca they will mathematically seal their place in the post season play-offs as one of the top four.

In addition, a win for America on Wednesday would extend their winning streak to 10 consecutive victories and move them clear as solitary leaders at the top of the Liga MX table as they are currently level on points with Monterrey, but Vucetich’s side have all their games in hand.

Chivas eyeing top four finish

Chivas are in action on Tuesday as the face Tigres in a rescheduled match pending from week 9 and they will hope to avail from a recent dip in form from Miguel Herrera’s side and edge towards to that all important top four finish and avoid the ‘liguilla’.

A win for Chivas over UANL would propel the side from Guadalajara into fifth place and gop some way in adding extra layers of intrigue ahead of Saturday’s Clasico Nacional clash at the Estadio Azteca.
