América and Sporting Gijón announce alliance
Both clubs confirmed the creation of an alliance in which promising young Mexican players will be able to develop their talent in Spain.
Last summer, Grupo Orlegi bought a 73% stake in Spanish club, Sporting Gijón - a move which opens the doors to the Mexican market. This summer, Sporting have been invited to Mexico to play a series of friendly matches and this week, the club announced an alliance with Club América in which the Azulcrema youth team will benefit from the Elite Academy of the Mareo Soccer School.
Through a joint statement, América and Sporting Gijón announced their alliance and gave details of what it is about. “Real Sporting de Gijón and Club América have signed a collaboration agreement that will bring the most outstanding talent from the Mexican club to Spain”.
All this will be possible through the Elite Academy of the Mareo Soccer School which will invite Mexican players to Europe to continue their development. The center was created by Orlegi Sports and will feature an exchange program for those who are part of it and for those who are in Coapa, in a project that also will connect Mexico City with the Principality of Asturias.
“Real Sporting de Gijón thanks Club América for its willingness to build bridges and create an alliance that will enrich both clubs equally, giving the future stars of Mexican professional soccer the best possible conditions to develop, both as players and as people, which has an impact, at the same time, on the growth of soccer in Mexico,” the statement explained.
América, the third Liga MX club to join forces
With the new alliance, Las Águilas became the third club in Liga MX to enter the project of the Elite Academy in Mareo following in the footsteps of Atlas and Santos Laguna.
