América’s incredible 4-0 destruction of Pachuca in Liga MX was the fourth time in the current format of the tournament that Las Águilas have demolished Los Tuzos in such resounding fashion. In what has become something of an occasion since the change of format in winter 1996, América thrashed their rivals who were terrible on the night at the Estadio Azteca.

On two occasions in which América have put Pachuca to the sword in Liga MX, the games have been played at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula, and this week it was once again an occasion for the home fans to enjoy a goal rout of their opponents led by Guillermo Almada.

Liga MX:

When did América last score four goals against Pachuca?

It was the quarter finals of the Clausura 2021 the last time such a result occurred, with Colombian Roger Martínez getting two goals as well as Luis Fuentes and Leonardo Suárez also getting on the scoresheet in a 4-2 win.

Unfortunately on that occasion the rout was not enough for América to progress, as the two goals scored by Los Tuzos (Romario Ibarra and Gustavo Cabral) saw them through on the night.

The second time was during the Apertura 2012, when the same scoreline happened as Christian Benítez bagged three before Raúl Jiménez finished the losing side off.

The one time when América were the visitors to the Estadio Hidalgo was back on match day 16 of the Clausura 2016. Again, the score was 2-4 with yet another Christian Benítex hat-trick along with a Raúl Jiménez goal sealing the deal. For Pachuca, it was Ángel Reyna and Fernando Cavenaghi who were on the scoresheet for that loss.

Who scored for América against Pachuca in the league?

So, on those three fateful match days for Pachuca they let four past a rampant América, and now they’ve done it again in a repeat of history that they don’t want to see. This time it was Henry Martín, Alejandro Zendejas, Julián Quiñones and Jonathan Rodríguez who were the ones cheering as the Azteca crowd loved them back.

América, with this result, continue their positive campaign at the top of the league table with 24 points from 11 games while CF Pachuca stumble and crash their way through the season - they have only won 2 games from 11 so far this season and sit just three points from the bottom spot in the standings.
