América under pressure after Superclásico defeat

The Eagles are not in a good moment. Last Saturday they were beaten by Guadalajara in another chapter of Liga MX’s Superclásico. Now André Jardine’s side must respond on the road against Puebla at Estadio Cuauhtémoc.

The outlook, at least on paper, favors the Mexico City club. In their last 10 visits to Puebla – known as the Angelópolis – América have suffered just one defeat, alongside two draws and seven victories. A win would move the azulcremas firmly back into contention for a direct playoff berth.

The last time Puebla defeated the league’s most decorated club came back in the Clausura 2018 tournament, when La Franja claimed a 3–1 victory. Alejandro Chumacero, Omar Fernández and Pablo González scored for the home side, while Renato Ibarra pulled one back for the visitors from Coapa.

For now, América sit 10th in the overall standings with eight points, outside the qualification places. Puebla, meanwhile, are 13th with five points.
