That's quite the stat - I suppose it helps to have a giant in the defence and a religious figure behind it.

Arsenal pressed and huffed and puffed but the brick house that Eddie Howe had built in front of goal was too much for Martin 'Goldilocks' Ødegaard and co to break through. Bear with me on that metaphor.
Newcastle end up with their second successive 0-0 to start the year and that makes 8 draws for them - you have to go all the way down the league to Brentford to find another team with as many.
But, I think Arsenal will be the most frustrated as they had plenty of chances to break the deadlock and pull even further away from Manchester City. Somewhere, Erling Haaland's supercomputer mind and legs are working out that it's only another 50 goals to win the league...
And Saka smacks the volley over the bar!

Wood was played through on his own and was one-on-one with Ramsdale. For some reason, he doesn't decide to shoot, instead playing it across goal and the right-back cuts out the pass!

Saka tries to skin Dan Burn for the 200th time but his touch goes too far and Newcastle have a goal kick.

Ramsdale runs 40 yards out of his box to stop a long ball finding Saint Maximin!

Martinelli passes to Ødegaard on the edge of the box but his shot spins away and almost finds Nketiah on the penalty spot! Newcastle clear!
Willock is alone, doing the downward dog on the pitch. He can't continue.
Ramsdale calmly allows a header across goal from Burn to go out, causing every fan in the stadium to let out a noise previously unheard to human ears. That was the sound of 60,000 hearts falling out of their trouser legs.
Trippier puts in a dangerous cross that's just too high for Chris Wood to get a head onto it. Kiwis can't fly, of course.

Martinelli was about to play the ball across to Nketiah but the centre back got a foot to the ball!
Head tennis now from the two sides, which makes Arteta furious.
Martinelli gets bored, takes the ball down and smacks a cross low towards goal. Pope saves.

Willock makes it all the way into the box with the ball but by the time he gets there, he's absolutely knackered and pretty much just gives the ball back to Arsenal. Chance gone.

Newcastle's giants clear well and the immediate danger is averted.

Saka gets the ball and he switches to Martinelli, but his shot is blocked. Corner.
The game has slowed down over the past 5 minutes due to the changes and a series of fouls in the middle of the pitch.
Dan Burn is happy about that.

Saka is going to make Dan Burn's eyes fall out of his head at this rate.
The winger is giving him a torrid time, everything is coming down the right for Arsenal and it is not a race the defender wants to have.
Saka is definitely not injured, but Dan Burn might have just got so twisted he won't fit into his tiny car later tonight. The winger ran, stopped still, ran and swirved his way around the defender before winning a corner.
Martinelli fires a curving shot towards goal from the left, but Pope saves with ease.
Saka is back up and hopping around like a happy rabbit. Back to normal. Off we go again.
Saka has been down for a while - he looks to have been hit in the head.
Half an hour to go, Arsenal continue to probe and Newcastle continue to make it difficult.
The home side sweep side to side before looking in between the lines. Nothing. Nada.
Nick Pope saves the cross from the free-kick. Danger averted.
Almirón booked for creeping over the white spray and edging too close to the ball. What a great bit of mischief.
The referee blows for a foul on Saka by Joelinton... right on the edge of the box on the right wing.
Saka had made a fantastic run down the right.
Ødegaard wastes a beautiful chance to score, hitting his shot high and wide from the edge of the box (and he had Saka open on the right wing).

The goalkeeper was robbed in the box and the scramble ended with Wilson almost getting on the end of a cross to tap in!

Arsenal again with some fabulous play from front to back; the ball was played through the lines and out to Saka whose cross was hacked away furiously by the Newcastle defence, who are already on high alert.
Newcastle clear after a fantastic start from Arsenal: Nketiah got in behind and almost caused a lot of danger with a low cross from the left.

Perhaps it's a good thing that the half ended when it did, as the heat levels were definitely rising!
Miguel Almirón made more tackles (5) than any other player in the first half.

Arsenal deserve to be winning, but Newcastle are 100% still in this game. That late chance has reminded everyone in the Emirates Stadium that there are two teams on the pitch, despite the early chances for The Gunners.
Saka has caused problems all night long and Ødegaard looks like the best player ever to grace a pitch, Eddie Howe will be grateful most of the chances ended up in the side netting.
Let's see if Newcastle can hold on or even grab a goal themselves, or if it is the home side who will capitalise on their dominance.

A quick free-kick is played into the Arsenal box by Trippier but Arsenal defend well.
The ball comes out to Longstaff and his shot is deflected out for a corner.

Into the last minute of the half, and things have just been turned up a level in terms of anger on the pitch.
Willock tries to shoot but instead fools everyone (even himself) by flicking the ball behind him.

Ødegaard lets a pass ross under his boot on the edge of the box for Partey to unleash a strike... but it's blocked.
Newcastle have an 'attack' that ends in nothing...
Nketiah just sent all of Schar's bones flying out of his body and onto the floor as he spun past him like Sonic the Hedgehog. Whoosh.

Newcastle instantly scrambled back after losing the ball and robbed Ødegaard in seconds. That was impressive.
Nketiah needlessly fouls Schar and is booked. The striker looks frustrated.
Arsenal with a couple of minutes of controlled possession, probing to see if they can draw Newcastle out of their Roman turtle formation they've backed into.
Joelinton uses his body well to make a long run forward with the ball and drag Newcastle out of their defensive shape.
Ouch! Wilson jumps into a challenge and catches Saliba on the foot.
The defender looks good to carry on, fortunately.

Newcastle get a breather after Wilson buys a much-needed foul on halfway.
Arteta, who was right next to the foul, is not a happy bunny rabbit.
A one-two between Saka and Ødegaard almost ends badly for Newcastle but the Norwegian's ball is just too heavy...

Nketiah is almost put through after Zinchenko's brilliant pass but it's well cut out by Bruno.

Arsenal switch the play to Saka, who tries to get back the man mountain Dan Burn (who drives an incredibly small car).
Poor Ben White ran all the wayon his own before realising none of his friends had followed him, just Longstaff. The Newcastle midfielder cleared the danger.

He does excellently well down the right, skipping over challenges, before slamming a shot into the side netting.

It all came from a cleared cross: Nketiah ran all the way down the pitch and cut back to Xhaka, who decides to pass it square - something that literally nobody on earth saw coming - and everybody in an Arsenal shirt misses the pass.
Trippier tries a chipped pass over the left back towards the oncoming Almirón, but Arsenal - who will have studied it plenty of times with Arteta - clean up nicely.
Newcastle are now trying to force some pressure onto Arsenal; Wilson has a weak shot saved by Ramsdale.
Ødegaard is causing havoc in the middle; Newcastle can't grab hold of him, he's squirming everywhere, dipping and ducking under challenges like a cheating limbo player.

Martinelli slipped Xhaka through and the midfielder hit a low shot into the side netting!

Eddie Nketiah has been Arsenal's stop-gap supply striker since Gabriel Jesus was sidelined, and he has scored in his last 3 Premier League starts at the Emirates, adding to his tally of 11 in 11 in all competitions.
And to break all curses and bad records, it probably helps to have a mix between a space alien and a radiation-emitting galaxy on your team. Lucky Newcastle, then.
