Arsenal suffered a double injury blow ahead of the Christmas round of Premier League games as manager Mikel Arteta revealed that two of his top players had suffered injuries and would be “out for weeks” at the least.

Both Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling will now recover in the Arsenal injury room as the team look to chase down Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table during this congested time in the fixture list.

What injury does Bukayo Saka have?

Bukayo Saka suffered an injury during Arsenal’s 1-5 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend, with Arteta trodding over the Christmas spirit by announcing that the winger "felt something in his hamstring" and couldn’t continue in the game.

Arteta 'really worried' about Saka injury

As well as that, Arteta went further in the post-game press conference, admitted that the club were “really worried about that one.”

In the pre-game press conference for the tie against Ipswich (27 December), the Spaniard was probed again on Saka, and confessed that Saka’s injury was “not looking good. He’s going to be out for many weeks”.

‘It’s a huge blow'

It’s a huge blow”, Arteta continued, “but it’s going to be a big exercise for us to overcome another challenge.”

“I’m putting some ideas together, we will be doing new things as we did when Ødegaard was out”, he added, hinting that a plan is in place to substitute the 23-year-old. Gabi has played there, Nwaneri and Trossard and also Havertz can play there. We will talk internally and see what’s the best solution”.

Added to the Saka situation is that of Raheem Sterling, who has suffered a knee injury. Arteta opened up on the winger’s condition, revealing that he is set for a period of weeks on the sidelines along with Sterling.
