Barcelona declares Sergiño Dest fit to play in Europa League

The United States international has recovered from his hamstring injury suffered in mid-March and could see some minutes on Thursday against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sergiño Dest has missed four consecutive games with FC Barcelona and three with the United States men’s national team since suffering a hamstring injury in mid-March. The 21-year-old took longer than expected to recover, but on Wednesday he was declared fit for Barça’s upcoming fixture.

The LaLiga giants will host Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday at Camp Nou for the second leg of the quarter-final in the UEFA Europa League. This is very good news for Barcelona’s manager Xavi Hernández because Dest has been a constant starter in this competition, with Dani Alves being left out of the squad.

Xavi praises Sergiño Dest

“If he is in the squad it’s because he [Dest] is fit to play. He is doing well and practiced with the rest of the team, including Memphis Depay. Players are recovering from injuries and that is very important in the last part of the season and Dest is a very important player for me that gives the team a lot of options either on the right or left side,” said Xavi during Wednesday’s press conference.

The United States international could return to the starting XI against the Bundesliga side and Barcelona needs at least a 1-0 win to advance to the semi-final. Sergiño Dest has made four appearances in the Europa League this campaign and three has been as a starter.
